NEW YORK (AP) Maxine “Maxine” Waters wants her friends and family to “celebrate” her birthday in her home, and she wants them to give her the birthday wishes.
The former U.S. House of Representatives speaker has issued more than a dozen birthday wishes since January.
“Let’s celebrate with you, Maxine, you deserve it,” she wrote in one.
In another, she said: “I know you’re enjoying this day with us.
Thank you for having such a strong sense of purpose, and for having faith in us to bring you success.”
Waters also asked for birthday wishes from people she has known, including her daughter, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
“We’re happy to receive them,” said her spokesman, Alex Conant.
Waters, 67, is one of the most influential members of the House.
She has led the party through the impeachment process, helped push through major trade deals and was the main reason the House passed a sweeping spending bill this year.
She was first elected in 1981 and became speaker in 2010.
